A laser printer is a delicate piece of equipment that needs to be taken care of and maintained for obtaining the best result. Printers are prone to a lot more wear and tear than other computer equipment. Maintenance procedures for a laser printer should be performed on a monthly basis for a smooth printing experience. Now before you start the cleaning procedure there are a couple of things that you need to do.

Unplug the printer for about an hour (to cool down) before starting the cleaning procedure.

Remove the paper trays
Remove toner cartridge and it on a piece of disposable paper or newspaper. Be careful not to tip or shake the toner cartridge as this may lead to toner leakage.

Cleaning
The exterior of the printer should be kept clean with a damp cloth. Clean the interior of the printer with a dry lint free cloth. Many models of laser printers provide a brush inside the printer that can be used to gently remove toner from hard to reach areas. (you can also use a new dry paint brush for this) If the printer has corona wires gently wipe the wires with cottons swaps dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Clean the rollers with a slightly damp cloth to remove dirt buildup.

Toner
When buying the toner DO NOT purchase cheap copies as laser printers are more vulnerable than other types of printers. Lower quality toner can greatly reduce the printers functionality can cause printing and hardware problems. Also when using recycled toner cartridges make sure the cartridges are from a reliable source as cheap cartridges can leak toner and cause damage.
