Kodak: The American Photo Giant

Eastman Kodak Company is a multinational public company that is involved in the manufacturing of imaging and photographic materials and equipment. Known for its its wide range of photographic film products for long decades, Kodak is re-focusing on digital photography and digital printing sector.
Kodak was founded by inventor George Eastman and businessman Henry Strong in Rochester, as the General Aristo Company in 1899 in Jamestown New York.
This company purchased the stock of American Aristotype Company, which later became popular as the Eastman Dry Plate Company, which was responsible for the first cameras suitable for nonexpert use. The Kodak company got its name from the first simple roll film cameras produced by Eastman Dry Plate Company, known as the “Kodak”. The cameras became instat success that the word Kodak was incorporated into the company name and the trademark was registered on September 4, 1888. The Eastman Kodak Company was founded in 1892 in New Jersey. Kodak is the largest supplier of photographic films in the world, for the amateur, professional, and motion picture markets. In recent years, it is seen shifting the focus to digital imaging.
Kodak is the leading producer of silver halide (AgX) paper and photo kiosks. It was also the biggest manufacturer of black and white photo papers,, the production of which was stopped by the company in 2005.
Kodak announced in 2004, it is stopping the production of traditional film cameras in the United States, Canada and Western Europe. In the year 2005, Kodak ceased manufacturing cameras that used the Advanced Photo System. Kodak however still continues to produce film for newer and more popular formats. It still manufactures specialty films.Kodak launched the Kodak Smart Picture Frame on the QVC shopping channel in the fourth quarter of 2000.
Earlier, in 1986, after lossing a patent battle with Polaroid Corporation, Kodak had given up the instant camera business including models like Kodamatic and the Colorburst.
