Samsung reveals OLED laptop prototype
The technology called as OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is generally used in television screens, computer displays, advertising, portable system screens and information and indication. And now, this technology is applied to a laptop. We are talking about the concept OLED laptop prototype revealed by Samsung. The laptop doesn’t merely used OLED but, an Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. AMOLEDs have individual transistors throughout the display - allowing for more effective power consumption and more impressive graphics, but they cost more and are harder to fabricate without high failure rates.
The company reveals that the 12.1-inch screen has a resolution of 1,280×768. Samsung has stated that it will start rolling out OLED TVs, laptops and monitors in 2009.
The laptop is indeed eye-catching! Its sporty design the snazzy red accents setting off the piano-black case are its attractions. The touch-sensitive keyboard is pretty high-tech. The technologically advanced monitor is capable of super-high resolution and display.
Samsung’s WXGA (1280×768) also uses a more advanced manufacturing technique to create the TFT backplane for the screen.
Silicon is used in the TFT backplane used to tell the pixels what to do. This can be either Poly-silicon or amorphous silicon (a-si). Samsung has used a-si for this prototype.
