The iPod had to be given a reply. Therefore, to make good impact over its rival Fujitsu-Siemens’ new pocket PDA/satnav is lighter than Apple’s device, has a superbly bright 2.8-inch touch screen and it can play music and games too.
It excels as a satnav. SiRFstar III tech enables a discreet internal antenna and it’s one of the first GPS units with Navigon’s superb new Mobile Navigator 6 software. Getting a satellite fix takes a so-so five minutes, but selecting postcode destinations or points of interest (POI) using the touch screen takes seconds, and route calculation is similarly brisk.
Navigation is comparable to TomTom’s devices, with smooth, real-time 3D graphics, clear voice guidance at a volume that automatically goes up as you accelerate, and helpful on-screen info. You also get multiple route profiles and speed warnings, though there is no camera database on board. You will need to buy a TMC aerial for traffic updates. Battery life is on the short side at about six hours, but for occasional in-car use and tourist walkabouts, there is not a more convenient satnav around. Garmin, TomTom et al should be worried, and if you add a bigger miniSD card, even your iPod might be looking to its laurels. Drawbacks are that there are no traffic or speed-cam info built in and no business applications are built in.
However, the tiny case, bright screen, superb satnav software makes up for all the losses. The MP3 player is a cool bonus.

The Apple iPod is not so much an upgrade as a total revamp of the iPod, the Touch 16GB is basically Apple’s iPhone without the disappointing aspects of that device - such as the recessed earphone socket, the paltry storage, the crappy camera and, err, phone bit. It’s also thinner - about a third as thick as the iPhone.
Everything we love about the iPhone is still here. The huge screen sports a multi-touch interface that’s smoother than a hot knife through butter. It lets you flick through tracks, gawp at video and pinch-zoom photos, with no practice or manual consultation. Put next to an iPhone, the screen’s got a tad more detail and better contrast, too.
The Touch’s built-in Wi-Fi puts the iTunes Store in your pocket. Now, you can buy tracks that take your fancy on the move, then have them injected into your player once you’ve docked it back home. The Safari web browser also lets you view websites from Wi-Fi hotspots.
Apple’s earphones remain iconic but not so well fitting. So bin them, safe in the knowledge that your replacements will fit into the earphone socket. Once that’s done, sound quality is on a par with any other iPod.
If you’re after a mid-capacity MP3 player, but don’t fancy such anything overly fancy upgrade, the Touch is an attractive prospect. Be warned, though: once you’re used to Apple’s multi-touch interface, you’ll be spoiled for life. Nothing else is ever going to seem quite as alluring or ingenious.

Gone are the days when one of your pockets had a mobile phone, another had an mp3 player, the third carrying the camera and your back pocket carrying a hard disk. Yes, you might really begin to feel heavy in our pockets. To reduce the burden of carrying all of these separately, Danilo Mangini has designed a very interesting concept. It looks like your usual iPod/ mp3 player but this gizmo has functions that are indeed unique.
This device called the “Lobster - 5 in 1 Multimedia gadgets” has five very different modules that make up the entire kit. These modules are separate but they can be connected to this device and different functions can be performed. The five modules include, an Mp3 player, GPS Navigator, Hard Disk, Camera and a Cardiometer. You will have the option of not taking something if you do not need it because the units are sold separately as well.
As a device, it looks fashionable and it quite petite, which can be attached to your arm. It looks stylish; as a result a lot of youngsters will prefer it. Although, we have seen similar gadgets being made earlier, this one has the capability to stay mainly because of its simplicity and original design. So, if you are in need for something on these lines, you know what to buy.
