Plasma TVs are becoming popular these days. The conventional CRT sets are becoming obsolete. The days of these TVs becoming history won’t be far away. Before moving for the latest plasma TV models, it would be better if had a better idea of what exactly plasma TVs are.
A plasma screen is made of two glass sheets. Then xenon and neon gases made to fill into the thousands of tiny chambers between these sheets. These electrically ionized sheets create plasma. Then a series of red, blue and green phosphors lie coated near the colour panels behind each chamber. With the passing of the electricity, the plasma chambers emit a ultra-violet light which in turn hits one of the coloured phosphors. This makes the image visible on the screen. Plasma gases are inert and sealed within tiny cells. The refilling of plasma cells is not required.
With the arrival of plasma technology, the television viewing got revolutionized. It made way for high definition television sets. The concept of big screen was something unthinkable a decade back. But plasma TVs with up to 71 inches became common with the arrival of plasma TVs. With a wide viewing angle, these TVs become ideal for watching movies. Plasma TV redefined the home theatre experience by bringing a new feel and charm into the drawing room. It made the images livelier and brought them much closer.
Plasma TVs with its capacity to re-produce the colours flawlessly will bring better results if kept in dark room.
Plasma TV requires just one impulse per pixel to produce an image, which could be refreshed almost instantaneously. A plasma TV, with its capacity to deliver very crisp and clear images will make watching action films and sports a fabulous viewing experience. As per electronic experts, the plasma TVs have a viewing life of 60,000 hours. There is no guarantee for the visual display after it crosses this limit. But of course, until then these TVs do provide simply fascinating visual experience.

HDTV: Television Screening is Revolutionized
Most of us believe that HD Tv is a new product of technology. If you fall into this group, then it is a big time mistake. HD TV is the invention of the digital age. The first attempts to set an HD TV standard started began in the late 1970’s. It was mainly for the movie industry as they wanted to improve the quality of the films produced. Like always, it was Sony and NHK, which started this move. They succeeded in making a picture with the quality normally only seen in 35mm film. This was a landmark in the revolution in the movie industry.
In the second half of 1980’s the television broadcasters in the US realized that they needed to be involved in this technology. The felt the need to deliver HD pictures to subscribers homes. It was in 1987, the Federal Communications Commission was asked to reserve a piece of the broadcasting spectrum for the new broadcasting methodology. However the four networks which were in competition in the rush to use the new technology couldn’t agree on a system and produced four different ideas. This led to a stalemate. Later in 1993 the FCC agreed that the four networks would come together and reach a uniform standard. The new standard paved to the formation of the Advanced Televisions Systems Committee. It got approval and began business in 1996.
Remember the fist clips in HD TV? It was a broadcast about Dale Chihuly and his glass blowing tricks. PBS by running this program became the first network to broadcast in true HD. It was a big success and other networks too started fighting hard to get onto the bandwagon as soon as possible.
By late 1998 the TV networks broadcasting over the air HD TV became common and the world television today is completely high dimensional. Call it a revolution of the modern day, but the seeds were sown decades back.
