Multimedia projector, as the name suggests, are used for multi-tasks. They are used for presentations at conferences, board room presentations, projecting videos on to a wall in your home to watch movies. There are a several types of multimedia projectors available in the stores today. To choose the right one, we are here to guide you. Read on.
There are basically four types of multimedia projectors. They are
• Digital Light Processing (DLP) (a trademark owned by Texas Instruments, representing a technology used in projectors and video projectors)
• Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) (LCD technology is based on the properties of polarized light).
• TFT (Thin Film Transistor) Active Matrix (A thin film transistor (TFT) is a special kind of field effect transistor made by depositing thin films of a semiconductor active layer as well as the dielectric layer and metallic contacts over a supporting substrate). and
• HDTV home theaters (High-definition television (HDTV) is a digital television broadcasting system with greater resolution than traditional television systems)
Digital Light Processing (DLP) has deeper black background and more portable and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is better for color.
Let us consider the uses these multimedia projectors in home or business. You should select the projector according to the features of the projector.
The image brightness of the projectors ranges from 130 lumens to 6500 lumens. If the desired display area is 5 to 6 feet, then go for the projector with image brightness ranging from 500 to 1000 lumens. If you want to use your projector in an area from 8 to 10 feet, the image brightness should range from 1000 to 1500 lumens and the image brightness should be 2000 lumens or above if the display area is 12 to 25 feet.
For large zoom operations, go for digital zoom. If the projector should be permanently installed, use a projector mount. Slim sized projectors are used in business purposes to display movie clips, animations and photos.
If you want to use the multimedia projector for your home use, go for a Home theater with LCD, HDTV, high resolution, high contrast and brightness ranging from 1000 to 2000 lumens.
Resolution comes in a variety of selections; your choice of resolution is based on your use of the projector. Projector resolution ranges from 854 x 480 to 1280 x 1024.
For basic power point presentations only, you can use a low resolution projector. If you use a lot color and videos, you will need a high resolution projector.
The next thing to keep in mind while choosing the right projector is the contrast. Contrast is the ratio between the lightest and darkest areas of a picture. You will want to select a multimedia projector with a contrast 400:1 or better. Contrast ranges from 350:1 to 6500:1.
